Coming soon to a lamppost near you.
We reported in April 2004, on a plan by Last Mile Communications to look at enabling lampposts to create a wireless network. ZDNet has a 2005 update on the system. Trials are apparently planned for later in 2005 at undisclosed locations.
The service at present would appear to revolve around a software application called MagicBook running on a mobile device, which points to it being less of an Internet access service, and more of a local information access point. The suggested figure to upgrade a single lamppost is £500.
