Korea looks to expand availability of 1Gbps

The Korea Herald has news on a series of trials in Seoul and Daejeon that will see 1Gbps access speeds expanding as part of an effort to attract businesses into areas, and more investment. The investment from businesses is going to be needed for the vision of a converged network that is planned for 2010, which should see access speeds of 50Mbps to 100Mbps becoming much more common.

Korea is hoping to generate around $7.7 billion in private sector money this year alone to finance the broadband vision, with two thirds of this coming from major telecoms operators in the country.
