Could rural areas see WiMax first?

BT has quietly been working on a number of wireless broadband project. The WiMax standard looks set to be deployed in Northern Ireland to close the final gap to achieve 100% broadband coverage. ZDNet has details on some of the previous trials BT has carried out with WiMax technologies.

One of the key points that people with their own Wi-Fi kit are finding out and has arisen from the BT trials is that antenna positioning is critical, for example moving an antenna two inches higher can mean a signal goes a lot further. The ZDNet article also does highlight a potential problem area for some people which will be planning regulations.
