Pay-per-minute broadband trial under way
In what looks like a retrograde step back to the days of £100 plus phone bills for Internet access, BT Wholesale is looking at the option of a pay-per-minute ADSL service.
The Register has more details on the trial that BT Wholesale are running internally. The cost for triallists is 5p per minute, which works out at £3/hour, which sounds very expensive. The purpose of the trial is to look at offering a service without any monthly fee.
While the pricing sounds expensive, when one considers that there is a fairly large number of people still using PAYG dial-up. Then the idea is perhaps not as daft, there is possibly a market for people who only log-on for perhaps an hour a month.
