Broadband delivered within 24 hours...
netvigator the wireless broadband service run by PCCW has now launched in the Thames Valley area, serving Aldershot, Maidenhead, Reading, Slough, Windsor and Wokingham. The service is using the 3.4GHz frequency band, and PCCW holds 13 of the 15 UK licences for that band, as was announced in June 2003.
The service is available at two speeds currently, 512kbps for £18/month and 1Mbps for £28/month. There is no set-up fee, or hardware costs, though a 12 month contract period does apply. If you should lose or damage the supplied modem, replacement will cost £75, and home visits by a netvigator engineer are charged at £50. All the prices include VAT.
A key point that netvigator is making is that within minutes of receiving the kit via a next day delivery service, customers should be up and working.
The pricing of this new service is very attractive, especially when compared to many wireless services that often carry higher than ADSL startup fees. Hopefully the service will prove popular in the Thames Valley area and can then spread to the other parts of the UK. Competition and choice for consumers in the broadband market is to be welcomed.
