Internet use taking over from TV viewing
In an NOP poll, commissioned by BT Yahoo! Broadband they have found that the average Internet user spends 3.5 hours per day online, compared to 2.8 hours of watching television.
This result is based on a survey of 500 Internet users, both narrowband and broadband users. Despite being a small sample, the fact that people are spending time at their computers rather than watching their TV will be worrying for the commercial TV stations. Though some of this growth in online time will be driven by the number of live web chats that accompany TV programs now. Breaking down the survey results a bit further shows that 44% believe that the internet, not TV, provided better news and entertainment. 92% said that what they most liked about the internet was the ability to find information, followed by online shopping and chatting.
