Verisign bows to pressure from ICANN re SiteFinder

Verisign, the company that we recently reported to have introduced a new site called Site Finder has been asked by ICANN, the organisation entrusted with overseeing many of the Internet's administrative functions including assignment of the affected .com and .net gTLDs, to suspend the service. They have now agreed to do this although they were not very happy about it. The Internet's technical community has been protesting against this decision ever since it launched and broke many services that relied on the absence of a "wildcard record" that Verisign decided to add without consultation. Well over 17,000 Internet users have a petition requesting Verisign to suspend the service. [seb]
