Virgin Media Superhub (Netgear VMDG480)
Virgin Media residential broadband services use
dynamic IP assignments which means that your IP address may change. It is likely
to do so if you reboot your router, or if your router loses power or its
Internet connection, but it may change on its own as well. Our Broadband Quality
Monitor (BQM) tool does not support dynamic IP addresses at this time. You may
add your router/IP to our system, but you must
ensure you check
regularly to ensure the IP address has not changed. You can
check your IP address here
If it has changed, you need to disable your monitor and set up a new one.
To enable pings (ICMP echo request/response), follow these steps:
Login to the router using your web browser at
http://192.168.0.1 (this is the default IP address; if you have changed it,
you will need to update it)
Enter your username/password. The default settings will be found on a
label at the back of the superhub under "Superhub settings" and will probably be
'admin' and 'changeme' respectively.
On the next screen, find the 'Advanced Settings' link at the bottom of the page
Under the 'Advanced' sub-menu click on 'Ping'
Finally, ensure the tickbox is checked after 'Respond to ICMP echo requests sent to WAN IP' and click 'Apply'.
That's it! you should be done. Just don't forget to check back regularly (we would recommend weekly) to ensure your IP address
has not changed–otherwise you may be monitoring someone else's broadband line
