Entanet selected for first 21CN broadband trial

The 21st Century Network (21CN) from the BT Group is going to bring many changes to the broadband market in the UK, and as ever this means trials to ensure everything is running smoothly.
Entanet has announced its selection as the only non-BT company to be taking part in the first 21CN broadband trial. The trial is expected to start on 1st November 2007 at a Birmingham exchange expanding to ten exchanges in January 2008 when other broadband providers will be joining the trial.
To be selected as one of the three trialists is very exciting news for us. We’ve been extremely proactive in BT’s 21CN industry working group consultations. This involvement will provide us first with hand experience of its implementation and testing as well as a significant insight into the network’s performance from an end user experience perspective and will help us accelerate our own product development.

Before people get carried away and start thinking of fibre based services to their home, the main thrust of the 21CN broadband products will be ADSL2+ based over the existing copper telephone network, leveraging in changes to the backhaul systems linking providers to the exchanges. The expectation is that 21CN will be priced such that broadband providers will have more scope to cope with the year on year growth in broadband usage.

That doesn't sound very 21st Century to me. With BT, expect FTTC/FTTH about 2015.

LOL like hell will it trials less than 2 months away and not even a hint of pricing for the consumer. I bet anyone anything they want it will cost more than a MAX based service or the same even though BT have banged on about how the service will be cheaper.
Hardly surprising if it does cost a bit more, a lot of providers have basically priced themselves in to bankruptcy at the moment or have had to cut costs i.e. staff, massively to stay in business, so you can't blame them if they do use it to gain a bit more profitability (or even profitability at all).
Oh but karlaustin BT have harped on about how it will be cheaper to provide, surely that mans if i sign up to BT for 21CN i should get a cheaper service from them than what MAX costs? Unless of course the plan is hoard the profit mk 2.
The only good news about all this is atleast they picked a highly regarded provider to be the only non-BT company to be taking part in the first 21CN broadband trial.
Indicative trial pricing has already been released by BT Wholesale, although Entanet have yet to publish their own pricing.
It also should not come as too much of a surprise that Entanet are the only non-BT company to be involved in the trials. They're one of the few major ISPs that haven't built out their own LLU network and, from looking at the Consult21 meeting notes, are one of a small handful of ISPs to be very active in the 21CN consultation process.

Indeed but this doesnt necessarily mean much when it comes to what us as consummers will actually be paying monthly
