Deregulation of 5GHz wireless frequency on the cards
Saturday 18 January 2003 12:00:00 by Andrew Ferguson

http://news.zdnet.co.uk has noted that the UK government is making moves to deregulate the 5GHz frequency band. This is the frequency used by 802.11a networks, which can run at up to 54Mbps.

It is thought that this move could happen very soon, maybe within a couple of months. If it does then some of the problems of potential congestion on public 802.11b networks and interference from microwaves and Bluetooth devices could be overcome.
