Until now, the largest central pipe size (the connection from BT's network to the ISPs that users subscribe to) has been 155Mbps which has been a problem for large ISPs requiring multiple pipes as well as those expanding due to installation costs and lead times. BT has announced that is is trialling and launching a 622Mbps pipe in the first half of this year. One major advantage with this product is that it will be available at three bandwidth levels from 155Mbps all the way to full capacity, making upgrading a lot easier for service providers. BT have not confirmed pricing as yet but suggest that it will be competitively priced against the equivalent 4x155Mbps product.
