BT SDSL service just a couple of weeks away
Wednesday 11 September 2002 18:43:00 by Andrew Ferguson

Well a trial service at least, the trial is due to start on 1st October 2002, as alluded to by The Register. ADSLGuide can go one step further and let you know which exchanges are taking part in the trial:

Bermondsay Clerkenwell Covent Garden Croydon
Fleet Gerrard Street Holborn Howland Street
Kentish Town Kingsland Green Kingston Mayfair
North Paddington Richmond, Surrey Southwark Sutton Cheam
Thornton Heath Tottenham Wandsworth Wimbledon

During the initial part of the trial Fujitsu SHDSL capable DSLAMs will be deployed. Once the trial has shown that the system works well, a further 30 exchanges will enabled outside of London and these will be based around existing Fujitsu FDX DSLAMs.

It is worth noting that price wise it is not expected that SDSL/SHDSL will be priced attractively for home users. The service will be squarely aimed at the business sector.
