Fibre trials in City of London create small coverage boost
Saturday 15 August 2015 10:22:43 by Andrew Ferguson

The City of London which is actually a very small part of London in terms of population but financially very important to the UK economy if the number of large office buildings is any indicator has seen its superfast coverage for residents and the SME sector improve.

The improvement may only be at two addresses but the fibre to the basement where a VDSL2 DSLAM is located in the Middlesex Estate building contributes heavily to an extra 1.7% of superfast coverage, taking the City to 14.7%, there is also we believe a FTTrN install at 65 London Wall that is helping improve speeds.

While the G.fast and FoD2 trials are slowly progressing, this trial roll-out in the City is different as full GEA-FTTC products are available to order from any ISP selling them, rather than the technology trials which may or may not deliver what people hope for, though some have already pre judged the future of G.fast and dismissed it.
