Origin offers two year voice line rental deal at £8.33 per month

We have just added a variety of the Origin Broadband and Home Phone packages to our ISP listings and it looks like they may have the lowest voice line rental if you can pay for two years rental in advance.

  • Christmas saver deal at £199.99 as a one off payment to cover your voice rental for two years (equivalent to £8.33 per month). Usual price is £249.99. A 12 month deal at £109.99 is also available saving £10 compared to usual £139.99 price.
  • You can also get free unlimited ADSL2+ if you take voice line rental at the normal monthly fee of £16.99. Otherwise standard broadband is £9.99 per month.
  • Fibre based FTTC packages are available, from £19.99 for an up to 38 Mbps service if you voice line is with another provider or £35.98 when combined with Origin Home Phone. Faster up to 76 Mbps service is available for a combined price of £42.98 per month.

The line rental does not include any voice calls, so check what the current tariff is and whether it suits your call patterns. Note the line saver deals are non refundable once you are past a 14 day period when you first order the saver deal.

The fibre prices don't make sense to me. Would think it cheaper if line with them also.

Two sets of fibre prices

1. The lower is if you pay someone else for voice line rental.

2. A combined price i.e. fibre and voice line rental with Origin.

I'm guessing they're charging the same for the FTTC component and (like several other firms) charging user about 15.99 for paying the line rental monthly.

Presumably they'd just charge 19.99 (38Mbps) a month if one had paid the line rental on a 1 or 2 year basis.

Actually, no, take that back - if you are paying line rental and FTTC to them, the line rental looks to be somewhat more than any of their line rental prices - the 139.99 price is approx 11.66 (and even adding 20% in case VAT has been missed off some of these that only comes up to 13.99)...

They have some strange FTTC pricing when combined with line rental, methinks, just as prof said.
