The Connecting Shropshire project has updated its news with minimal information on some £1,454,257 of extra funding for the county. What are told is that this money is to provide acess to faster fibre broadband for 1,000 rural properties and is to be achieved as an extension to the current contract with BT.
The £1.4m is a lot smaller than the 2015 to 2017 allocation for the area and given the rush of similar amounts in terms of money and premises in other areas we are guessing this is part of the Rural Community Broadband Fund (RCBF) which as of March 2014 had £14.2 million of projects under consideration.
Some checking reveals that Shropshire did have an RCBF bid underway in 2013 and more recently Church Pulverbatch parish council was discussing a RCBF application.
