PlusNet introduce 'low cost' package for the average Joe
Friday 17 May 2002 13:32:00 by Sebastien Lahtinen

PlusNet today announced a new service priced at the margin in order to compete with market leaders in low cost ADSL services. Their new 'Home Surf' product is priced at £20.99 (incl. VAT) per month with an activation fee of £58.75 (incl. VAT) which can be spread over the 12 months contract period. For an extra £11.75, you can have a monthly contract. The service also includes 25MB of web space and e-mail along with 24x7 technical support charged at local rates.

So where's the catch? Well, the home user package does not support file sharing or peer-to-peer (p2p) applications and you will only have access to text newsgroups, so it's obviously aimed at 'low bandwidth users'. Those users who download lots of mp3 music (all legal of course :-p) will find this irritating, whilst others may prefer a low-use-low-price model. [seb]
