East Sussex identifies areas for next phase of better broadband roll-out
Wednesday 29 January 2014 12:24:18 by Andrew Ferguson

The first areas of East Sussex to benefit from the broadband project in the county were identified last October and construction is well underway with the new fibre links to form the backbone doing in and cabinets for those areas should be appearing soon and going live in the spring.

The planning team for East Sussex has identified the next handful of areas that will be rolled out to and these are Buxted, Chelwood Gate, Chiddingly, Danehill, Framfield, Guestling, Halland, Newick, Ninfield and Nutley. The aim being to have the fibre based services live in these areas in around six to nine months time.

Some infill, i.e. cabinets on exchanges that were enabled commercially is also going to happen with extra cabinets in Baldslow, Bexhill, Castleham, Cooden, Hastings and Uckfield. The Go e-sussex website has the full detail and a chart with a few words about each exchange area.

One of the reasons the planning and surveying process takes so much time is that enquiries need to be made to the power company for a quote and timescale to supply power, and if any roadworks are needed this has to be notified in advance.

I'm Phase 2 in the Newick exchange area so pleased to be getting FTTC in Sept-Oct, maybe.. It would be nice to see some info the from ESCC. Not one soul in East Sussex can say if they are getting faster broadband via this initiative yet as no information except exchange names have been given, even for the Phase 1 with "cabinets ... appearing soon" has any info been released. The secrecy seem to be at odds with demand generation.
