Hampshire has run and closed its Open Market Review for 2015-2017
Thursday 23 January 2014 10:29:03 by Andrew Ferguson

We try and keep our eyes open for any developments on improving the lot of those who in the final 10% of UK with respect to receiving superfast broadband, but the Open Market Review for Hampshire that closed on Friday 10th January 2014 slipped by us.

This latest review is covering the 2015 to 2017 period and represents another council gathering the data ready to finalise plans once the allocation of the £250m of central funding has been announced, which should see superfast coverage extended to 95% of the UK as a whole.

The current programme in Hampshire is set to be offering better broadband to some 9,000 premises by March 2014 (areas of Basingstoke and Dean, Gosport, Hart and the New Forest), of these some 7,300 are expected to be able to connect at speeds of 50 Mbps or faster. The maps and areas for the next phase are expected shortly.

The main BDUK project in Hampshire is looking to hit a superfast target of 90% of the premises in the county, building on the existing commercial roll-outs and should benefit some 57,500 premises, data from Hampshire council shows 586,252 premises (residential and business), suggesting that the next 5% comprises some 29,300 premises. The current project looks likely to have dealt with the larger clusters meaning that the projects that are working ever closer to full superfast broadband coverage are looking at much more thinly spread properties which will need a change in strategy and/or larger investment to get superfast speeds.

NYNet and North Yorkshire council announced an OMR coming up in NY last month, and included links to a tendering website for more details. However, those details don't appear to be visible.
