Rural FTTP project Fibre GarDen has completed its share offer
Tuesday 07 January 2014 17:45:33 by John Hunt

Fibre GarDen, a community cooperative, have announced that they have reached the required funding to build a super-fast fibre optic network through Garsdale and Dentdale in Cumbria. £155,000 of funds has been provided by the communities through a share offer, adding to £157,000 of RCBF funding that had previously been secured. In December, Fibre GarDen announced their preferred supplier, ITS Technology Group, and they will be contributing a further £70,000 to complete the funding.

The next phase of the project is to complete discussions with DEFRA and the Connect Cumbria Project to sign off contracts and confirm the build programme. Without the Fibre GarDen proposal and under BDUK proposals, only 45% of the properties in Dentdale will get access to superfast broadband, whilst the rest, and those in Garsdale will only be guaranteed access at speeds of 2Mbps. Further information is available at the Fibre GarDen blog.

Best of luck to them - anything to stick it to BT is good in my view.

Yes this is FTTP. The numbers in the last paragraph had suffered some editing errors meaning this was confused.
