KC adding more fibre to the Hull diet
Monday 11 March 2013 10:59:33 by Andrew Ferguson

KC in the Hull area is currently offering a mixture of fibre products to some 15,000 properties in the Kingswood, Greatfield and Beverley areas around Hull but the good news is that over the course of 2013 KC plans to expand to another 15,000 properties. The existing footprint is 80% FTTP, with just 20% using FTTC, which is the inverse of the Openreach roll-out and means the majority of people will enjoy a fixed connection speed.

The latest announcement includes a list of locations where a full fibre (FTTP - Fibre to the Premises) service will be made available. Prices range from £25 for a 45 Mbps connection through to the specialist product which 350 Mbps service is available for £99 per month (20 Mbps upload).

KC seem to be proving that FTTP is viable in urban areas and they are extensively rolling it out in marked contrast to BT's dragging it's heels and a reluctance to roll it out at all
