LOVEFiLM Instant lands on the Wii console
Tuesday 04 December 2012 18:49:35 by Andrew Ferguson

The venerable Nintendo Wii now offers the LOVEFiLM Instant films and TV shows on demand service making the Wii the third major games console supported by the streaming service. This is on top of other devices like the Kindle Fire HD, iPad, and a variety of smart TVs and blu-ray players.

The Wii U has only just launched, but for now no LOVEFilm application is available, the new console is restricted to NetFlix for movie streaming currently. A broadband connection able to support streaming at 2 Mbps is needed to watch the standard quality content, in theory this should mean around 90% of UK broadband connections can use the service.

It's all hotting up. Lots of adverts on TV now for Netflix, Now TV, LoveFilm, YouView, Freesat PrimeTime. Netflix just got Disney on board. iPlayer about to make a big announcement.

ISP's usage caps are going to come under pressure.

Netflix alone is +30% of US peak traffic now. IPTV will dwarf P2P in time as more non-tech folk start getting YouView boxes and the like.
