The KCom group of which KC is one part has published its interim results for the six months ending 30th September 2012. The results reveal very positive take-up of their fibre based services, with 3,200 customers buying the mixture of FTTP and FTTC services the operator has rolled out.
The fibre roll-out from KC is a mixture of full fibre and cabinet based solutions, the results do not give a split, but it is believed that the FTTP variant is the dominant version. The key titbit of information for residents and businesses in the area that KC operate is they are committing to more roll-out to go from the current 15,000 premises passed to 45,000 by March 2015. £30m is being set aside for capital expenditure in both the 2014 and 2015 financial years, and this is when KC brings in around £106 million in revenue each year.
The FTTP variant is capable of 350 Mbps, with the provider pushing the up to 100 Mbps versions, with customers learning via a checker whether it is FTTC or FTTP in their area. The 100 Mbps service (15 Mbps upload) costs £50 per month and has a £100 connection fee (18 month contract, 600GB usage allowance). At the bottem end a 45 Mbps download, 5 Mbps upload version is available for £25 per month, but with a much smaller usage allowance of 50GB. For the broadband specialists that walk among us, there is the option of a 350 Mbps service (20 Mbps upload), with 750GB usage allowance for £99 per month (connection is free).
