The standard retail price of the Humax DTR-T1000 YouView set-top box is £299, and canny shoppers can find it for £249 online, but this is still a large sum of money for many. BT Retail and TalkTalk both offer the device for a £50 activation fee, and now KC in the Hull area is joining the fray.
KC TV is offering a slightly different proposition to the other providers, a KC broadband, telephone and TV bundle is an extra £12 a month on top of the standard bundle, which also buys you extra usage allowance for your broadband, raising the standard 33GB allowance on Home to 110GB, and on Home Xtra it goes from 300GB to unlimited. A £30 setup fee must be paid which includes installation of the set-top box and broadband optimisation.
The TV bundle comes with a 24 month minimum contract term, but if you continue the subscription beyond the two years, the warranty will extend so long as you keep the subscription.
The scrollback functionality of the YouView box needs you to have a broadband connection that connects at 3 Mbps or better, and with KC declaring that all its broadband lines are a minimum of 2 Mbps already then the number unlikely to be able to use the IPTV capabilities of YouView are minimal in the Hull area.
