Special offer on FTTC Simultaneous Provides in New Year
Wednesday 03 October 2012 18:18:28 by Andrew Ferguson

Openreach who provide the GEA FTTC (Generic Ethernet Access Fibre to the Cabinet) products behind products such as BT Infinity, Sky Fibre and TalkTalk Fibre products (plus many other providers) is set to run a promotion starting 1st January 2013 and ending in June 2013. The promotion covers those who order a new telephone line (or reactivate one that has not been used for more than 90 days) and an FTTC product at the same time.

The activation of the copper telephone line for a WLR (BT Retail, Primus, Plusnet voice service) or MPF (TalkTalk and Sky voice services) will only cost £30. The standard price for a new basic copper line is £50 (down from £88 back in 2009).

What happens at the retail level will depend on the individual wholesale and retail providers, so it is wait until the new year to see what offers and promotions they decide to run.

PlusNet offers new line install for ~50 at present, for someone wanting it, and waives the normal 50 quid FTTC install cost. Think they probably stipulate 12 month min on line rental (18 for fibre bb service), which made me look at this option for second phone line.

Most firms charge more (Primus seems next cheapest at 59, while Sky [with non fibre product] wanted over 100 for a second line, while glossy says 39 - so much for "Believe in Better" - oh, and it took a half dozen contacts to get that price after fibs about getting it for free, etc, etc) .

FTTC date put back from end September to end December, so I cannot go ahead yet (though have seen a new FTTC cab has been installed recently - pavement slabs still up), so looking much more likely than 6 months ago!
