JT retires dial-up as Netadmin gears up to serve 42,000 premises

The news that JT (Jersey Telecom) was to roll out a FTTP network and recover its copper assets was a big boost to the island, and shows what is possible given a clear vision. The first homes were connected in February 2012, and the trial has been continuing. Now Netadmin whose solutions have dominated in Sweden is set to move from trial phase, to the big deployment which will see 42,000 premises connected over a period of three years.

The changes on Jersey are moving at a pace, as earlier in August, the company announced that it would retire is dial-up internet service, and will work with individuals to find them a broadband alternative that suits their needs. The volume still using dial-up is relatively small, with just 400 customers. Those affected will get at least seven weeks notice, and the broadband should work out at a similar price point for the same sort of usage level.
