If superfast broadband roll-outs in Suffolk can turn £21m (£10 from BDUK, £11m from County Council) into a £5 billion boost to the local economy, then one must wonder why local authorities have waited for the seed funding from the BDUK.
Suffolk claims that it will be one of the first local authorites to start actual broadband rollout under the auspices of the BDUK projects, with the decision between Fujitsu and BT being made in the autumn, and actual deployment starting before the end of the year.
The plan for Suffolk while looking to meet the BDUK targets, also considers the ongoing EU targets for 2020, with work going on between 2015 and 2020 to make services of 100 Mbps widely available.
Perhaps the regions which are first with the fastest speeds might benefit from business growth, but I doubt that the growth will be universal as the speeds' coverage increases.
Unfortunately for Suffolk and the rest of the UK, London will always get preferential take up of business growth services. "Offices in London" selles better than "Offices in Ipswitch".
Ipswitch...Centre for IPv6 changover? :)
