Ask4 expands its 50 Mbps service to prestigious Leeds apartments

The 20:20 development in Leeds is set to benefit from 50 Mbps broadband connections to the 242 apartments within the development.

"The addition of ASK4′s internet services will allow tenants at 20:20 to immediately connect to the internet at 50Mb/s with no requirement for a telephone line, no caps or usage limits and importantly for short term tenancies, no contract."

Hopefully in the next year more landlords and property developers will realise the importance many people attach to having a good broadband service, and ensure that a decent speed is available to new builds.

Excellent. About time the property sector woke up to this, rather than leaving everything to the phone line USO.

It is indeed about time the property sector woke up in this respect, but to be able to truly deliver a "good" broadband service will require more than 50Mb/s at a 242:1 contention, or even a 10Mb/s service at 50:1 contention. Believe me we deliver to a student premises just over the road from this place, idential number of occupants and even with strong policies and technical restrictions, they destroy 100Mb/s

I can't see students paying enough to cover the provision of a connection higher than 100Mb/s but perhaps "upscale" appartments can push this in to part of the service charges to cover a 500mb/s connection?

Over 250 apartments that would work out as slightly under £50/month inc VAT.

This results in a 50Mb/s connection at 25:1 contention, ASK4 probably haven't provisioned a 500Mb/sec line and I expect you could reduce this slightly and keep the savings as profit in the long run.

Oh come now Pete, you know as well as I do they aren't going to be putting 50Mbit/s in to serve 242 properties with a 50Mbit connection. AFAIK it's a gig to the building.

But like Virgin Media you only get upto 2mbit on a 50mbit line.
