It was only three weeks ago, that we learnt Everything Everywhere was keen to get 4G roll-out started out before the spectrum auctions for 4G take place, and today sees the start of a four week consultation period by Ofcom to allow stakeholders to have their say.
The provisional conclusion by Ofcom is that allowing Everything Everywhere to offer 4G over its existing 1800 MHz band would not distort competition, the consultation period exists so that any competitors who feel this is not the case can speak up and try to make Ofcom change its mind.
The release from Ofcom also provides better detail on where UK Broadband will offer 4G services from May 2012 at the wholesale level. The initial network roll-out will be in the Southbank and Borough areas of Southwark.
One provider offering 4G services before all the others expected services to launch. How is not this going to distort competition?
