Mark Thursday 5th January 2012 in your diary, as Trefor Davies the Chief Technology Office at Timico is looking for help in setting a new Guinness World Record. The record he is going for, is the most comments on a blog article, the record currently stands at 100,000 comments, and he is aiming to just break this number but smash it. To accomplish this he obviously needs everyone out there to do their bit and comment on the blog article that will appear on trefor.net at 6am GMT on Thursday 5th January 2012.
The original aim was to engage social media and perhaps attract a few thousand comments while helping to raise money for the RNLI. The fund raising will still take place, but the task of providing a platform for the blog to run on means that things have entered another dimension.
To ensure the blog can cope with the load it will be moving to a high availability, high performance platform, running on something like a 5 blade (60 processor) platform provided by Cisco, with a 20 TB EMC Storage Area Network, dual 10 Gigabit Ethernet internet feeds, and support for IPv6.
The record attempt also shows what is possible with a private cloud, and that this area is not solely the domain of the massive players like Google, Amazon and Microsoft. If you are on twitter, feel free to promote the blog on the day with the hashtag #comment24, as well as Facebook, Google+ and LinkedIn.
I hope he makes the blog on something that the regulars can be really devisive about!
Remember this will be for charity so really get those needling comments out re: BT, VM, OFCOM, NFP, JFDI, UKgov, etc...
