BTwholesale Confirms January 15th for Wires-only Live Service
Tuesday 18 December 2001 17:02:00 by Andrew Ferguson

BTwholesale have confirmed that the date of 15th January is a go for the live service. For the Home service it is £25+VAT(£29.37) per month for the wholesale price and £50+VAT(£58.75) for the activation fee. The ISP pricing will obviously be higher to cover the costs involved, e.g. support staff, BTcentral links etc

Bruce Stanford - BT's director of broadband says "We are delighted at the success of the trials currently running...We will also be increasing flexibility for self install customers by cutting minimum term contracts from 12 months to one month - meaning that, if Service Providers pass this on to end users, they will be able to test drive broadband without fearing a long term commitment." which nicely confirms what was derived from the BT pricelists this morning.

The press release also goes on to confirm that the existing USB and Ethernet products will remain to give users the option of taking the equipement from BT, the 12 month minimum term will remain on this product, as the cost of the engineer visit and hardware is spread over the install fee and montly payments.

ISP's are formulating their responses to this news and as we find out what ISP's are to offer package wise we will let people know.
