Hilton Worldwide have signed a deal with BT Openzone to provide Wi-Fi and Internet services across the nearly 100 Hilton hotels in the UK and Ireland. The Openzone service being deployed will reportedly offer users a tenfold increase in bandwidth and a high-quality Internet experience.
The deployment sees more than 17,000 bedrooms, public areas, meeting and conference spaces being enabled with the Openzone Wi-Fi service. It will be free of charge to Gold and Diamond Hilton HHonors members and BT Total Broadband customers. Openzone partners will also be able to access the service in the usual way when visiting the hotels.
"The growing number of travellers with mobile devices such as tablet computers and smartphones, means guests increasingly expect to be able to log on wherever they are and with a fast and reliable connection. BT currently has 2.8 million Wi-Fi hotspots across the U.K. and Ireland. By expanding our coverage at Hilton Worldwide’s portfolio of hotels, we are demonstrating our commitment in providing leading edge technology services to partners in a very demanding service environment."Chris Bruce, (CEO) BT Openzone
The ever-expanding Openzone network is good to see, and this deal will open up the Hilton hotels to more Internet users as those who already have access through an existing subscription will not need to pay for access when staying at these hotels. Readers are reminded that the 2.8 million strong Wi-Fi network is largely made up by BT broadband customers who have their home or business hub enabled to allow access to BT Openzone or FON. The number of dedicated deployed Openzone hotspots was 3,900 in November 2010 but is now believed to exceed 4000.
