What happened to BTnet backbone?
Tuesday 04 December 2001 10:50:00 by Andrew Ferguson

Looks like the BTnet core peering network had problems yesterday between at least 9am and 6pm according to traffic reports on a number of BT core routers, as shown here.

As appears usual for a BT concern the status page indicates no problems for Monday. A number of BT routers seemed to suffer an almost idential problem and the effect was enough to show up on the overall European data here.

Also last night a number of BTopenworld users were reporting that pings had increased to 1600ms and above on the routes out of BTopenworld onto the peering network. The concern is that these are starting to be regular occurrences and after the total failures a couple of weeks are an ongoing concern for the stability of broadband and internet access as a whole in the UK.
