ZyXEL NBG-419N Router Reviewed
Monday 26 April 2010 17:09:35 by John Hunt

Back on the review path, thinkbroadband are reviving our hardware review section with some new hardware that we have been looking at. First for 2010 is the ZyXEL NBG-419N Wireless N Home Router. The ZyXEL is a wireless home router aimed at users who already have a broadband router but want to add wireless or users who get services from a cable broadband provider such as Virgin Media. This device doesn't contain an ADSL modem so a separate broadband device may be required.

Maybe someone should remind ZyXEL we're in 2010 - 100Mbps Ethernet is pretty lame for a modern switch device.

Not a fan of ZyXEL. Went from 2Mb to 10Mb internet and when downloading at full speed the router would freeze and reboot.

yeah the modem seems poor spec'd, 100mbit lan and no modem device? daisy chaining lan devices is a thing of the past for me.

It is primarily intended for use with cable broadband - so blaming Zyxel for the absence of an ADSL modem is like complaining that a motorbike doesn't have four wheels.

My experience of Zyxel has been good thus far; and this looks an okay device in its role.

Like others I would like to see the mould broken and (say) eight gigabit ports for a change; especially with 802.11N in the frame.

Lastly thank you for a great review which took some work!

The zyxel i have is terrible. The firewall regularly locks the whole router up and it needs to be rebooted quite often to get it working again. The web interface is also as slow as. I'd definitely not buy one.
