Ofcom have today announced a guide to help students save money on communication services. It covers the quandary over whether to get a fixed line telephone service or just stick with your mobile phone, and also suggests people weigh up fixed vs mobile broadband, discussing some advantages of both.
One advantage of mobile broadband is you can use it anywhere and you also often have a PAYG option which avoids a long contract lock in. Whilst not available from BT, you can get shorter length contracts on phone lines from providers who offer Wholesale Line Rental (WLR) services which may be worth considering if you are only going to be living somewhere for 9 months. It is worth weighing up the costs though- a 12month contract could work out cheaper than a month-by-month.
