Griffin direct customers sold to Eurotel
Thursday 05 February 2009 11:34:39 by Andrew Ferguson

Griffin Internet is one of those older providers that concentrates on solutions for business and home workers. A management buy-out occurred in 2005 which has seen the provider concentrating efforts on building its wholesale business, and to this end CommsDealer carried the news that the remaining direct customers have been sold to Eurotel who are a channel partner with Griffin. This sale represents only some 5% of the total number of customers serviced by Griffin.

"The legacy direct base will be well looked after by Eurotel, customers will receive the same high level of service that they have always had, remaining on the Griffin network, but will be managed by Eurotel and given access to a larger portfolio of services."

Nick Williams, (CEO) Eurotel

Griffin started offering ADSL2+ Annex M services in January 2009. Annex M defines a standard where the upstream speed of ADSL2+ can be boosted to 2.5Mbps at the expense of a bit of downstream speed. This is offered via an unbundled service utilising Tiscali wholesale products. While mention of Tiscali will bring forward visions of very cheap consumer services, the wholesale division does offer a wide range of products and generally the more that is paid unsurprisingly gets you a better service.
