USB Version of ADSL - Tales of a Tester....
Friday 14 July 2000 01:00:00 by Sebastien Lahtinen

It seems that the USB version of ADSL isn't that bad after all. We have been contacted by someone claiming to be on a trial at the moment.

We can't really say how good USB will be until it launches, as there will surely not be enough trialists to simulate the contention. As such, the 60K/s speeds we've been hearing about are not surprising.

This person has confirmed that there is no NAT on this particular trial, and there are no plans to introduce it we are told. Quake, Halflife and many applications do work.

The USB Speedtouch modem is incapable of doing NAT so it would have to be done at the BT end, if implemented.
