OTA update shows LLU numbers continue to rise
Monday 07 July 2008 16:05:19 by John Hunt

The June update from the Office of the Telecommunications Adjudicator was released on Friday showing the number of unbundled lines now at 4.760 million, a rise of 120,000 from last month. Wholesale line rental (WLR) had 4.87 million lines deployed whilst those using Carrier Pre Selection (CPS) dropped slightly to 5.74 million (a fall of 70,000).

Similar to last month, Openreach is falling further behind in its development process for its various software and systems to support its product lines with new functionality not being added as quickly as desired. Also, there is a slow take up in the new version meaning additional testing and development is required to maintain these old versions that are still in use.

Migration success targets have now been met for the second month in a row which is encouraging and will hopefully maintain this high level, although LLU repair and provisioning are still a little way off the target levels.

Recent concerns have been raised by communication providers with regards accommodation within exchanges for LLU, in particular with regards, space, power, cooling and the suitability of the products to fulfil providers requirements. Concerns were also raised over the equivalence between BT Wholesale and other providers. Ofcom will be undertaking an audit of a set of sites during July to evaluate if further work is needed in this area.

Comments like this show why everyone realises CB's comments have no standing. It's not something anyone would say if they were either knowledgable or professional.

HAHAHA The first 2 replies and one is from Thinkbroadbands BT love child..... what a shocker! (of you go to whinge i called you a BT love child now... go on... retaliatory Boohoo name calling boohoo)

Get use to it. People want more for less and LLU delivers, subscriber numbers dont just keep rising for no reason.

All hail the rise of LLU... If you dont like it get another BT phone line and support them herdwick cos its clear month on month others dont want to.... Well TOUGH!

Nothing to do with being a fan of BT, this website deserves comments from people that are well thought out and written. It is disrespectful to Andrew, his colleagues and all the readers to post comments in such a poorly presented way.

If you think saying LLU = yippppeee Ofcom and BT = Boooooo is disrespectful to Andrew or anyone behind the scenes at thinkbroadband all i can say is you need to start reading alot more news story comments, there are far worse things said than that. All my comment did in longer terms was praise LLU but not praise BT or ofcom... Which is what the story itself does in an indirect fashion anyway.

Another comment from the geriatric that doesnt recognise an obvious joke (or rather thats how this 5 year old sees you)...
Do you work for BT?
Do you not think you are a little past climbing up poles?
I suggest the only wooden thing you should worry about is your walking stick (again as seen through the eyes of a 5 year old). Here have a toffee old bloke.

Sorry, wrong on both, not old and no connection with BT.

I just wonder why you are so anti BT and write the way you do.

Perhaps with the number of llu people at such a high the time has come where people are not charged if they are disatisfied with there llu provider and have to go back to BtW for line provision.

Yep id agree with that. Another thing to add to ofcoms to do list, after all you can freely move to a LLU provider, only fair you can freely move back.

It is a common knowledge that BT offers poor value for your money and has a poor customer service.

Their technology (mostly using old dangling copper wires for the local loops) is many years behind current standards. In many places in the UK there are still no LLU-based services, and BT has no suitable broadband products for small business customers.

If comments continue to be mostly personal attacks between members then I'll stop reading them. I won't waste my time wading through such irrelevant outpourings, and I look to moderators to cut these childish extroverts out of the picture that the site is meant to convey.

Im happy to appologise for defending myself in replies to the two posters that felt the need to take an obviously joking comment out of context and start the arguement. I promised to kiss BT bottom in future if it makes them happy. Sorry David8409
