Project Kangaroo desperately seeking ad agency
Thursday 03 July 2008 11:57:53 by Andrew Ferguson

SeeSaw formerly known as Project Kangaroo is apparently in the search for an advertising agency to create a national advertising campaign to make sure the service starts with a bang rather than a whimper.

One recent set back for the video on demand service that will offer many thousands of hours of TV programmes from the BBC, C4 and ITV may see its launch delayed until 2009 with the news that the Office of Fair Trading is to refer the fledgling service to the Competition Commission.

If SeeSaw can offer material for a reasonable price and decent video quality it could prove very popular around the world, and carries the potential to impact on sales of DVD boxsets for TV shows.

Whether SeeSaw will have the same impact on broadband traffic levels as the various free catch-up TV services is hard to judge, as the current economic climate may see people simply deciding to save money and wait for a show to repeat on the multitude of TV channels we have.

Errr so hold on you will have to pay for the likes of BBC, ITV and channel 4 content which you can watch freely online from those organisations website or with an app called zattoo?

Launched with a bang it may be when a dumb ad company comes along...... Usage will be as rare as a white elephant though.

the BBC seems to manage to advertise the iPlayer ad nauseam, what's different here ?

I suspect its money herdwick, like or hate the beeb they havent been shy in coming forward and spreading the word about iplayer (of course they also have the advantage of being able to remind us all about it before, during and after certain TV shows)... I cant see how this new service is going to make any money or be popular when you can already watch much of the same for free... Maybe if they deliver it in a HD stream or download it will take off, otherwise i dont see it.

SeeSaw makes material available beyond the 7 and 30 day window of iPlayer.

Which i agree sounds an advantage, but if you havent caught up with a programme within 30 days you are not likely to bother anyway.

IMO it needs a big wow thats a good idea to save itself and get people to pay. I its going to be nothing more than DRM filled bloat and the stream quality is only on par with iplayers DOWNLOADS then i dont see many paying for the service. There would be no point considering you can use zattoo for live TV and the broadcasters websites for catch up viewing.

zattoo really is a great little app, easy to set up and use.... about the only things that could make it better are higher quality pic and a record programme feature...... both of which for many many reasons are not likely, other than that top class app.
