Nildram looking to expand userbase
Wednesday 22 August 2001 04:22:00 by Sebastien Lahtinen

Nildram, have announced a marketing initiative to attract customers from other ADSL providers nearing the end of their 12 month contract. This scheme named MoveDSL is limited to the first 500 users on a first-come-first-serve basis. The setup fee is reduced from the standard £150+vat to £60+vat on the production of an invoice from the current provider. This move and a decreased price from 1 September is expected to compete aggressively to gain customers who are looking for a reliable solution having experienced a less than satisfactory service from their current provider.

The current 12 month contract that is set by BT Wholesale is locking consumers into long term relationships with providers who, sometimes fail to provide the expected level of service. The additional burden of a £150+vat setup fee also further discourages defection. Whilst this reduction in the install fee is welcomed, it does not solve the underlying problem which is beyond the ISPs' control.
