Carphone Warehouse after Tiscali UK?

There is increased speculation about a sale of the Tiscali group suggesting that Carphone Warehouse is looking to bid for the UK arm of Tiscali.
If Carphone Warehouse were successful, it would overnight become the largest broadband provider in the UK. While it would not gain much in terms of a larger unbundled network of exchanges, it would get a TV-over-broadband service that has been running since 2000 and also the various business and pro-sumer broadband brands that Tiscali already owns such as Pipex, Nildram, Freedom2Surf and Bulldog. Then of course there would be the Tiscali Wholesale services which offers a wide range of wholesale products.
Those interested in further analysis may find this Ovum article useful. Of course there are other potential buyers stalking Tiscali, with the names of Vodafone and Orange getting mentioned now and then as possibilities.

ye it may make it the biggest but dont make it the best if i recall carphone warehouse have talk talk and i can tell you from my own dealings with them god help us who are with tiscali or any of there other brands they own

If it becomes the largest, it will be able to bring costs down further.
CPW is good for marketing. Look at the push it has been doing for AOL and TalkTalk in its stores. You can't really say the same for O2 and even Orange seem to be having less prominent displays.
TalkTalk needs a digital TV service if it is to survive in this market.

Who cares about marketing?
CPW have a shocking reputation for customer service/delivering on their promises/locking people into 18 month contracts with hidden traffic shaping so I don't see their increased growth as necessarily being a good thing for consumers.

Even though in the past i would have never gone to CPW or Tiscali this is really gonna annoy the Music industry.... Over night they could become the UKs biggest ISP and given the fact they have basically said screw you to the BPI in the other story this would be pretty funny... Music industry bullies beaten by bigger sized bullies for a change awww my heart is bleeding for them already lol

A marriage made in heaven - Tiscali and CPW. Customer service taken to new depths.
Good home for pirates though, come on down. You'll find throttling in place to restrict your habit but at least the goon at the top is singing from your hymn sheet.

I think it is hillarious, i agree tiscali and CPW terrible customer service, still wouldnt recommend them to anyone.
However watching the record execs throw their toys out of the pram if they become the uk's biggest ISP and they wont be bullied by them is pretty damned funny.
Even if you have the toughest stance against piracy on the planet, you have to see the irony of the music industry being given a 2 fingered salute and basically powerless for a change.

with Tiscali poor download bandwidth, downloading anything to listen to would be a joke.

As in another post of mine on this forum, I think TalkTalk is excellent. Reliable, fast, *very* cheap. Initial customer service while trying to get connected was crap, since connection it's been pretty good.
I disagree on "hidden traffic shaping". They are upfront about this, it's on one of their web sites. It used to be completely open for P2P 12 midnight to 7am, shaped other times. Now they are trialling some software that dynamically shapes P2P traffic 24/7.
I don't work for them and have no axe to grind, just a satisfied customer. Credit where credit's due.

Just like VM CABLE is bad for some - BUT VM using BT line has the same problems as any other one!!...
Just like tiscali WAS great(in richmond it WAS) until they made a MAJOR mistake, and now its whole name is mud!!
The thing to worry about, **IF** CPW does buy Tiscali, is will it make it worse, or is it just the existing Tiscali users that will suffer??
