24Mbps WBC trial extended to Penn exchange

Following our news in November with regards BT's WBC 21CN trials, BT have confirmed that an additional exchange is also to be included. The trial will allow users to test speeds up to 24Mbps, and is provided over a second phone line for free.
The original deadline for applying was extended twice, but then been removed due to not meeting the required number of participants. The new exchange, Penn, is not ready for service yet, but applicants are welcome to apply to get things moving as quickly as possible. All the exchanges in the trial are in the Birmingham area, and are as follows:
- Stechford
- Halesowen
- Sheldon
- Wood Gate
- Castle Bromwich
- Chelmsley Wood
- Burntwood
- Edgbaston
- Victoria
- Central
- Penn
If you live in one of these areas but haven't yet applied and would like to take part in the free trial, please contact Entanet (21cn@entagroup.com) to find out if you are eligible. Obviously BT are desperate, i thought there were only limited places on the trial... Doesnt sound like people are exactly leaping at the chance... Maybe its because they are smart enough to realise BT MAY start charging them for that second phone line once the trial is over.
I spoke to someone who works for BT and the management team & field staff in and around birmingham were offered the chance of joining the trial but no one really took any interest
I am waiting for my line to be activated and tbh i cant see what the problem is, free line rental from BT, no ISP charges and 50 quid a quarter in free phone calls, as for the line when the trial is over, you will be offered the chance to join the isp or have the line disconnected
I am with BEthere and eagerly awaiting the comparison of the two

So you think BT are gonna hand out there new service on trial for free and when you dont want it come and disconnect it all for free as well... I wouldnt call my view cynicism id call it being realistic.
Perhaps this is an indication of the (current) demand for higher speeds by the majority of the population. FTTC/H investment anyone?

BT trials very often are under cost, e.g. trials for 2Mbps ADSL in 2000 could be had for £35 a month, well under what 0.5Mbps launched for later in the year.
The lack of demand might be explained by all the exchanges picked already haveing a commercially available equivelent product BT may have been better picking exchanges that have no LLU presence, the type of people who would take this up will not be your typical joe bloggs they dont care if its adsl1 or 2+.
looks like no chance of BT trailing this in Northern Ireland. With a rural cimmunity FTTC is the only way forward
why dont BT ask beunlimited and ukonline what the 24 meg service is like (lol) instead of delaying what they really should be doing ..it's no good having all the whistle's and bells in the exchange if the end user can't have them due to poor infrastructure
