Madasafish has entered the competitive home telephone service market with a Wholesale Line Rental (WLR) package. This means you can choose to subscribe to the providers home phone service and stop paying line rental to BT Retail. Madasafish are charging £9.99 per month for their basic package, which includes 500 minutes of inclusive calls to UK landlines in the evening and weekends. There are no set-up fees or long contracts, the minimum contract is one month with a 28 day notice period. This compares to the cheapest full line rental from BT Retail which is £11 per month. Details of the Madasafish Talk plans can be found at www.madasafish.com/talk.
This new Talk package is not tied to the broadband services Madasafish offer, so you can have your ADSL via another provider but still use their telephone service. An upgrade to the basic calls package is available at £5.99 a month, which increases the inclusive calls allowance to 1000 minutes a month. Both packages carry the clause that a call only qualifies as free if under 60 minutes in length, if a call lasts longer than that the excess time becomes chargeable.
What seems a comprehensive and simple FAQ for the service can be found here. When looking at the Madasafish website we must say that we liked the frank explanation for what the phrase 'up to 8Mbps' meant, see here. It would be nice particularly in the larger full page press adverts broadband providers run to include something similar so people realise the 'up to 8Mbps' is referring to a lot more than just that speeds may vary according to Internet congestion.
