Ofcom and the Queen's Speech
Wednesday 20 June 2001 13:48:00 by Andrew Ferguson

Today marked the opening of a new session of Parliment. Mentioned in the Queen's speech was the following

A draft bill to create a single regulator for the media and communications industries and reform the broadcasting and telecommunications regulations will be published.

This refers to the formation of a single regulator for media/internet/broadcasting generally known as Ofcom. As a draft bill it means it is not a high priority which means it could be a few years before we see the demise of the nearest thing to a regulator we have in terms of Oftel.
