BT DSL rollout - rolls to a standstill.
Thursday 14 June 2001 16:33:00 by Andrew Ferguson

Over on The Register Rebecca Webster of BTignite confirms that this September will see the last of the planned exchange DSL enabling.

From September onwards the rollout will be demand driven and only if there is a firm business case. How the demand is measured is unclear at present, but repeated enquires for specific exchanges will move them further up the list one hopes. Where we make enquires about the enabling of specific exchanges I am assurred that the enquiry is passed onto the people prioritising the exchanges

What this means is that the BT driven DSL rollout is going to take some years to cover the small towns and quieter parts of the UK.

Perhaps the time is right for people to lobby their new MP's for the government to assist in the rollout of DSL services.
