Telefonica buys provider Be for £50 million

It what looks like a return to the UK broadband scene, O2 which is owned by Telefonica who left the UK broadband market in May 2005 have acquired the LLU provider Be for £50 million. See for more on this purchase.

Be entered the UK broadband market skipping ADSL, and rolled out ADSL2+ from the start, and offers an up to 24Mbps service for £24/month. It currently is available on around 150 exchanges, and is aiming to exchange to 400 exchanges by the end of the year. The 400 exchanges chosen should cover around 50% of the UK population.
