This is still very much on the drawing board, but it seems Berwick Borough Council is looking towards the future, with a significant boost to broadband services in the area. A government led scheme the Digital Challenge is set to close on Friday 28th April. Berwick Council is to lodge a bid via the scheme that may benefit to the sum of £200,000 for further evaluation, with an eye on £7,000,000 to develop community Internet access.
The Berwick bid has support from Northumberland Strategic Partnership and One NorthEast, and if successful may pave the way for a mixed network solution that could see Fibre to the Home deployed in the area, along with wireless broadband connections. More information on the bid is at the Berwick Today website.
