Forest Green in Surrey has been one of the shrinking number of BT exchange areas where no affordable broadband service was available. After tendering process announced in September 2005 the area now has an ADSL enabled exchange. The village is located about 12km west of Gatwick Airport.
The exchange has been enabled as part of the Connected Surrey initiative, and as part of this a Broadband Advice Day was held on 16th March 2005. With meetings for both businesses and residents of the area. The good news is that the exchange appears to have had a full build ADSL service added, so should support the Max (up to 8Mbps) products in the near future.
There are now just 49 exchanges without a RFS date from BT, but 21 of the Scottish exchange areas have an alternative broadband service via www.hebrides.net. While of course enabling an exchange does not guarantee an ADSL service for every line on an exchange, until such time as everyone has ordered a service it is hard to estimate the figures.
