BT Wholesale announces next phase of 8Mbps trials

People have been waiting for news on the BT Max DSL service, and snippets of rumour and conjecture have appeared in the last few weeks. Today sees official news published by BT which can be seen here.

The current small trial is set to expand at the end of November 2005 into a wider trial, and a full commercial launch across the UK is pencilled in for Spring 2006. This larger trial will involve 25 exchanges initially, increasing to 53. The intial block of 25 is shown below:

This new trial phase will be available to 50,000 customers initially, rising to around 150,000.

Looking to the future, BT confirms it is running its own internal ADSL2+ trials, and it is looking to conduct wider tests of ADSL2+ and even VDSL in 2006.

Correction: We had November 2006 as the trial expansion date, this was incorrect it is November 2005.
