Cable cut in Manchester

In this story over on The Register, they report that contractors cut through a cable outside the Manchester Exchange, this succeeded in cutting off around 30 exchanges, in North England, Scotland and Northern Ireland.As of 3pm it was hoped that the exchanges would be back online - what do you users have to say on this?
