International Car Free Day - 22nd September
Wednesday 21 September 2005 22:45:00 by Andrew Ferguson

BT Conferencing, which is part of the BT Group is encouraging its staff to not use their cars to travel to work or for attending face-to-face meeting. This is all in support World Car Free Day. Of course as a conferencing group one would expect most meetings to make use of their own services. During 2004, the BT Group made use of conferencing to the extent that nearly 300,000 face to face meetings were eliminated by the use of conferencing technology, this in theory saved 47,000 tonnes of CO2 being emitted into the atmosphere.

World Car Free Day on 22nd September 2005, is the concluding part of European Mobility Week. The aim of the car free day is to encourage people to look at alternatives to car use, for example home working and using alternative transport methods. If enough people take part it may even allow people to see what difference lower traffic levels will have in busy urban centres.
